The hairline is receding, slippers have appeared next to the ‘comfy chair’, and your every move is accompanied by a series of grunts and groans. Whilst many believe life begins at 40, this simply isn’t true. You’re getting older and there’s no getting past that. How you react to that says a lot about your character: me, I chose to have a full-blown mid-life crisis. Others choose different, more constructive paths. So, what do you buy for the geezer in your life that is looking for a something to fuel his mid-life crisis or maybe they are looking for a new experience? Here’s some ideas to help you choose a gift for a forty year old man:

Memorable days out

Before the man in question re-mortgages the house to by an open top car, why not try a supercar driving day? Currently Buyagift are offering these up to £80 off. See here for more details.

From personal experience I can tell you that one of the most exhilarating gifts I ever received was a hot lap with a professional racing driver. Once you have done a lap with a pro you appreciate how good they are at what they do. However, be warned that you may need some new pants. If you wanted to combine this with driving some other high speed supercars on the same day then check this out.

Booze

Drink always goes down well, unless of course they don’t drink, in which case drink probably isn’t the answer. If you do go down this route, then rather than just their favourite tipple, why not add a bit of novelty to it, such as a personalised pint glass or maybe a wine and beer tasting experience for two at £15. If whisky’s your thing, then try the Whisky Tasting for Two at the Whisky Lounge, available at ten locations across the UK. Click here to find out more about this.

Sport

Does the geezer in question wax lyrical about his favourite team with his every breath? Then try a retro football shirt from your favourite football team. There are shirts from yesteryear for most of the biggest teams in the UK plus some classic old kits from yesteryear, such as the one from 1982 which Kevin Keegan wore underneath his perm. If the geezer likes to get involved, then why not offer a beginners course in something like a snowboarding taster session, clay pigeon shooting, or why not try some axe throwing!!!

Something for both of you to enjoy together

As for something a little more pedestrian, why not think about a day out. Nothing beats a night at the theatre; take a look at London Theatre Direct for some good deals.

It’s surprising how many people that live in or near London have never really seen the city. This is why the traditional tours can be so good. For a good selection you could do worse than having a look at Smartbox’ selection. The beauty of this product is that you can give the box as a nice gift and then the man can choose the tour he wants from over 1500 tours selection. See here.

Personalised

Finally, how about something personalised. How about personalised vodka with silk-lined gift box? Or a paper from the year that they were born, or a signed photo of their hero?

Whatever you buy them, remember that it has to be something meaningful, unless you don’t really like them that is, in which case a book token will do. And remember, when you give a gift to a 40 year old man, on the outside he may look incredibly grumpy, joyless and ungrateful, but on the inside, he might be mildy pleased!
